A New Challenge

Seeing as how I am trying to get back into writing and seeing as how I have been reasonably successful so far in terms of output (2 post in 2 days before today), I thought I might set myself a new challenge in order to keep my motivation up and so that I have something to show for my efforts on those those slow days and the days when I don’t have anything to post.

But what kind of challenge? The A to Z challenge worked quite well for a little while but it did become somewhat repetitive and the reverse A to Z wasn’t really a new challenge at all. I briefly considered challenging myself by attempting to rewrite select passages from famous books using a different narrative voice or structure but this seemed a bit too self-indulgent (not that I’ve completely abandoned the idea).

In the end I chose this: every time my production rate dips and/or every time I really feel the need to post something but have nothing completed I will write a 100 word story utilising the Random Plot Generator featured on a brilliant web site I have only just discovered, WritingExercises.co.uk

I’m hoping this helps me keep focused during those tough days and that I don’t slide back into the 6 months of inspiration free malaise I encountered last year. I realise now that I’m not just writing to become rich and famous or either one of those, not that that would suck, I’m writing because I enjoy it and it gives me a sense of purpose I don’t get elsewhere. I’m writing for me.
