Similar to the 100 word stories I used to write, only twice as much 🙂
This one utilises the following prompts:
A bold 33 year-old man
A naive 25 year-old woman
An office
A mysterious death
corrupt society
Here we go…
He took her hand in his as they made their way down the barely lit corridor. The rest of the team had left almost an hour ago but he enjoyed the build of anticipation and suspected she did as well. She hadn’t worked there long enough to know a lot about him, but she enjoyed his company and would never suspect him of anything untowards. The feeling was mutual. When they reached the room at the end of the hall he asked her to stay put for a minute while he investigated the sound.
If she knew he was never going to return she might never have agreed to work late in the first place. Although maybe she would have. His death was ruled as accidental. She didn’t know for sure that it wasn’t. Beneath his awkward charm there was something else going on. That might be what attracted her to him. When she was eventually arrested she knew that they knew she had nothing to do with his death. Not that it mattered. This was the world. There wasn’t any point in hoping it would change. But hope is what she did anyway.
