Somewhere out in, oh let’s say… the south Atlantic Ocean, there is an island which very few people know about, and when I say very few people, I mean that you can count the number of people who know about this island on one hand.
It is a completely unremarkable island in almost every way, aside from the fact that not many people know about it that is. It is a very small island but in terms of average temperature, variety of vegetation and all of the other scientific indicators that dictate how and why life differs in different parts of the world, it is exactly what you would expect of an island located in the south Atlantic ocean.
Having said that, there is one other thing about this island that makes it stand out. Something rather important. Something a little bit magical. You see, the most conspicuous thing about this island is that it is entirely populated by bunnies.
Yes, the only animal life to be found on this island is rabbits. Bunny rabbits. Thousands upon thousands of them. Old bunnies and young bunnies, big bunnies and small bunnies. Bunnies with white fur, bunnies with brown fur and bunnies with different coloured spots on their fur. Every type of bunny you can imagine.
Now you would imagine that an island that is nothing but bunnies would be a wonderful, joyful place… and you would be right. Just about every bunny that made its home on this island was an exceptionally happy bunny. But there was one bunny on this island who was not very happy, and the reason that he was not happy was that he missed someone, someone who didn’t live on this island, that only 3 people know about, and who wasn’t even a bunny at all.
The name of this one sad bunny was Wiggles and the someone he missed dearly was a human girl named Matilda, though Wiggles knew her as Tilly. Wiggles and Tilly were best friends and would hang out all the time, until one night, after a long day of play-time and cuddles and, wiggling his cute little butt, Wiggles went to sleep. This was no different than any other day for Wiggles only that when he woke up this time, he was somewhere completely unfamiliar.
At first, Wiggles didn’t mind his new home because he was surrounded by fellow bunnies and, as we all know, bunnies are just about the cutest and most cuddly creatures on this earth. But after just a couple of hours he started to miss his Tilly and he became very sad. All of the other bunnies did everything they could to cheer up Wiggles, but nothing seemed to work. And that is how he became the one sad bunny on this tiny island of happy bunny rabbits.
Now, I’m afraid I lied earlier when I explained that this entire island was populated by only bunnies. The truth is, and as one of only three people who know about this peculiar little bunny island you must promise not to speak a word of this to anyone, the truth is that there was another person on this island. The only other person who knew about the island, after you and me, of course. How she learned of this island we will never know. I certainly didn’t tell her about it and you are only hearing about it for the first time right now.
The only non-bunny on the island was a young human girl who, upon learning that her best friend had disappeared, set off on an adventure filled with obstacles and challenges the likes of which she had never before encountered, in hopes of finding him again. Her adventures had led her all over the world, quite a feat for a young girl, until they eventually led her to this very island. Tilly knew, as soon as she set foot on the island and saw all of the precious bunnies, that it would only be a matter of time before she found her Wiggles.
(One last thing before we get to the expected happy ending of this little story: Matilda, in the usual course of her life, was not a person one would generally describe as adventurous. It was only the love for her bunny that propelled her out into the world and gave her the strength and confidence to traverse the globe. But love will do that, won’t it? Who knows, maybe one day we will get to hear about some of the magical adventures she had while she was out looking for her Wiggles? But back to the story.)
And find him she did. And from that day on every bunny, and every human girl, on that mysterious little island somewhere in the south Atlantic Ocean that you have promised not to mention to anyone, was as happy as you would expect. Perhaps even happier than that.
The end.
