Here's the thing. I really want to post something here that isn't one of my Furious Fiction entries or a story I wrote in a journal or on a napkin, paper-bag or air sickness bag in the past couple of years. I do have a handful of all-new stories that are at various stages of … Continue reading Ramblings of a Man Rediscovering his Motivation

Macaroons
A few years ago I had a little trip overseas that consisted of visits to London, Liverpool and various parts of Yorkshire in the U.K., as well as Boston, New York City and Portland, Oregon in the U.S.A. It was a supremely awesome trip that I hop to be able to repeat one day, though … Continue reading Macaroons
Yeezy Does It
This is the one I didn't enter into the competition (see Reservations - 1st Draft), even though the only feedback I received was that people preferred this one over the other one. I'm like that sometimes. It was inspired by some recent conversations I've had with a couple of my co-workers, who for some reason have all of a sudden become low level athletic footwear enthusiasts.
Reservations – 1st Draft
Most of the time with these things, I start writing a story based on an idea that has randomly popped into my head,an idea that is completely independent of the criteria put in place by the Australian Writers' Centre - the organisation that hosts the Furious Fiction competition - and this time was no exception. In fact, the only difference between this submission and my previous attempts was that, having missed the previous month's competition, I decided to write two stories.
(D)escalation (January 2021 FF)
โIf I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter.โโ Marcus Tullius Cicero, philosopher and statesman. I mentioned on my Instagram account (@smalltalltales) that if I could obtain a modest five 'likes' on my recent 'Story Submitted' post, then I would post the first draft of my January 2021 Fan Fiction entry. And … Continue reading (D)escalation (January 2021 FF)
Like a Drum (November 2020 FF)
This one is my most recent Furious Fiction submission, November 2020 as indicated in the title. I really liked the prompts for this month, but it was still incredibly difficult editing this one down to 500 words. Perhaps that's why it was so difficult? If I win, or make the short-list (or even the long-list) … Continue reading Like a Drum (November 2020 FF)
Untitled (November 2019 FF)
It's the first full weekend of the new month, so I'm just about to get started on my latest Furious Fiction submission. The story below is my story from this time last year. I cannot recall what the prompts were, and I think it is one of my weaker entries in the monthly competition, but … Continue reading Untitled (November 2019 FF)
The Serval’s Master
โWell played, my dear,โ he said, โthe Orb of Alacrity is now yours, but it is I who will ultimately be victorious.โ
A Sad Story in Three Parts
This one was written during some lonely bus rides back in 2018. It was written for a friend who liked to read my stories during their own bus rides. It worked out well because it kept us both entertained for a few days. It was never meant to be a sad story. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PART 1ย … Continue reading A Sad Story in Three Parts
Trigger (4th Draft?)
Almost 10 years ago, all the way back in 2011, I took a Screen-writing class as part of a Cert IV in Creative Industries. At 28 years of age, I was one of the oldest in the class, though one of the more interesting parts of the experience was the fact that the students were … Continue reading Trigger (4th Draft?)
