Two truths and a lie. All three are about me. And no, I am not going to tell you which one is the lie.
Story Fragments
Untitled (July 2021 FF)
It's been more than a little while since I posted anything here; I gave myself a significant break from social media during the colder months (that's pretty much June through September for all of those not from the southern hemisphere), as well as what ended up being or fourth, fifth and now sixth (and counting?) … Continue reading Untitled (July 2021 FF)
Toy Terror Take Down
It seems like another lifetime, but just a few years ago I used to take a train from Tecoma to Richmond as just one leg of an almost 2 hour commute to work each morning. A coworker joined me for a large part of this trip and we would have all sorts of fun talking … Continue reading Toy Terror Take Down
Reservations – 1st Draft
Most of the time with these things, I start writing a story based on an idea that has randomly popped into my head,an idea that is completely independent of the criteria put in place by the Australian Writers' Centre - the organisation that hosts the Furious Fiction competition - and this time was no exception. In fact, the only difference between this submission and my previous attempts was that, having missed the previous month's competition, I decided to write two stories.
(D)escalation (January 2021 FF)
“If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter.”— Marcus Tullius Cicero, philosopher and statesman. I mentioned on my Instagram account (@smalltalltales) that if I could obtain a modest five 'likes' on my recent 'Story Submitted' post, then I would post the first draft of my January 2021 Fan Fiction entry. And … Continue reading (D)escalation (January 2021 FF)
Like a Drum (November 2020 FF)
This one is my most recent Furious Fiction submission, November 2020 as indicated in the title. I really liked the prompts for this month, but it was still incredibly difficult editing this one down to 500 words. Perhaps that's why it was so difficult? If I win, or make the short-list (or even the long-list) … Continue reading Like a Drum (November 2020 FF)
Untitled (November 2019 FF)
It's the first full weekend of the new month, so I'm just about to get started on my latest Furious Fiction submission. The story below is my story from this time last year. I cannot recall what the prompts were, and I think it is one of my weaker entries in the monthly competition, but … Continue reading Untitled (November 2019 FF)
The Serval’s Master
“Well played, my dear,” he said, “the Orb of Alacrity is now yours, but it is I who will ultimately be victorious.”
Untitled (July 2019 FF)
FURIOUS FICTION At the beginning of last year, March 2019, I began entering stories into the Australian Writers’ Centre Furious Fiction competition. It’s a fun little monthly challenge whereby you have 55 hours to write a 500 word story that could ultimately net you $500. The only caveat is that each month they provide you … Continue reading Untitled (July 2019 FF)
The Wanderer
Another tiny adventure I wrote as part of the the aforementioned keyword exercise (see Tell Me What You See) I started someone time back in 2019, when the world was a much different place. A specific phrase popped into his head as he passed by what must surely be the same tree that had passed … Continue reading The Wanderer
