Trigger (4th Draft?)

Almost 10 years ago, all the way back in 2011, I took a Screen-writing class as part of a Cert IV in Creative Industries. At 28 years of age, I was one of the oldest in the class, though one of the more interesting parts of the experience was the fact that the students were not all the same age. Some of us were a little older, some came right out of high school, all of us we’re keen to tell stories in one way or another.

There are two reasons I bring up my age in this introduction, neither of which is because I harbour a morbid fascination with how quickly time feels like it is passing the older I get. The first reason is, I do not think I could have written anything half as decent as this screenplay if I had attempted the course right our of high school (I took a gap year after high school, before settling down into a 4 year Advanced Diploma/Bachelor of Business course). That is not to say that I was/am a better writer than any of my younger classmates at the time. Simply, that I was a better writer at age 28 than I was at age 18, and that, looking back at this screenplay now, I’m a better writer nearing age 38 than I was almost 10 years ago.

The second reason I bring up my age at the time is also simple, you’re never too old. If anyone I know is thinking about up-skilling (I think that’s what they call it) in any way, but is hesitant because they think they may be too old, you’re not. If you have

But I digress.

This short film script was inspired by a friend of mine who thought it would be fun to tell the story of a drunk Irish assassin named Trigger. His story, had he written it, would have been completely different to mine. It would have been more of a black comedy, for one.

For those of you who have been following me since I first started uploading the things I have written, yes I have already posted another version of this story. That was a long time ago, and I’m not entirely sure how this version differs from the earlier one, but hopefully this one reaches a bigger audience. If anyone one has any interest in making this screenplay into a short film, please get in contact with me, because that would be a hell of a lot of fun. It’s about 20 pages long, so if I’m not mistaken, that would equate to about 20 minutes of screen time.

Without further ado, Trigger.

A couple more notes:

  • If someone could please let me know if this PDF download works, that would be great
  • Let me know if you prefer downloading a file to reading the story on the website
  • Everything in the story is 100% made-up
  • Apologies if I have offended anyone, causing offense was not the goal of the story
  • Feedback is always appreciated

Cheers

James
